Accelerate: Introduction to Hospital Training

This training day will cover what hospital pharmacy entails and its structure, similarities and differences between pharmacies within private and NHS hospitals as well as a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the roles and functions of the departments within hospital pharmacy including:

 

– Education & Training

– Aseptics

– Medicines Information (MI) 

– Clinical Services

– Dispensary

– Procurement

 

By the end of the training day you will:

 

  • Understand the working environment is like within hospital pharmacy
  • Understand what to expect while working as a hospital pharmacist. Gain a comprehensive step-by-step awareness into the in-patient process and types of prescriptions. This will include viewing real-life drug charts, screening prescriptions as well as troubleshooting errors while discussing possible interventions.
  • Focus on how controlled drugs are managed within hospital as well as gaining an understanding of prescribing requirements and electronic CD registers
  • Join discussions around medicines management, the implementation of NPSA alerts and the prevention of Never Events
  • Acquire a comprehensive insight into the specific roles and responsibilities of clinical pharmacists include specialist pharmacists such as surgical and consultant pharmacists. You will have an opportunity to take drug histories as well as practice warfarin and discharge counselling.
